Sanda Hîrlav Maistorovici graduated from Sigismund Toduţă Music High School (where she studied with Papp Tibor), the George Dima Conservatory in Cluj-Napoca (piano studies), and the Philology Faculty of the Bucharest University. She was a piano teacher in Ploieşti, and since 1994 she has been an academic at the National University of Music Bucharest. She earned her PhD in Musicology in 2000, under the supervision of Valentin Timaru. She is a member of the Union of Composers and Musicologists in Romania, and has published articles and reviews in journals and daily newspapers, having also been invited to national and international conferences. Her books comprise monographic studies about the Romanian composer Paul Constantinescu, about the repertoire of Romanian miniature for piano, about Romanian oral traditions in the 20th century, and about The Art High School in Ploieşti. She is involved in prodigious cultural activities as founder and president of the Paul Constantinescu 2009 Cultural Association.
